Most patients undergoing buccal fat pad removal will tolerate the procedure under local anesthesia. For these patients, oral medication is given one hour before surgery to help them relax during the operation. On the other hand, some individuals prefer to have the procedure done with intravenous sedation to avoid any discomfort.
