It is not infrequent for a patient to schedule their blepharoplasty before planning a trip to one of Costa Rica’s coasts. Relaxing at the beach is a great way to spend time off work while recovering, and doing so is acceptable if patients follow their surgeon’s instructions for postoperative care. There are key points to remember before leaving the city for the beach:
- Being available on days 5 to 7 for the follow-up and suture removal appointment with your surgeon is vital.
- If you travel to the beach after the first week, plan to avoid direct sunlight by wearing a hat and UV-protected sunglasses. Sunblock is a must to prevent inflammation of the incision scars and pigmentation of the skin around the bruises.
- Swimming in a pool or ocean is strongly discouraged until a month after the operation.
