Does blepharoplasty correct droopy eyelids?Blepharoplasty is a surgical procedure that treats loose upper eyelid skin, called dermatochalasis; it does not, however, correct a droopy eyelid. A droopy eyelid, also known as ptosis, is caused by a weak levator muscle (the muscle responsible for elevating the eyelid). This weakness may be congenital or acquired. In both cases, an operation must be performed to reinforce the muscle in order to raise the eyelid to the desired position. The important thing is to make a distinction between excess eyelid skin and a weak muscle. If ptosis is not diagnosed and treated, the result will be inadequate and you will probably need another operation.
