Ptosis surgery is an outpatient procedure done, on most occasions, under local anesthesia. The surgery requires microsurgical techniques that do not cause significant trauma to the delicate eyelid tissues. Therefore, in most cases, postoperative swelling and bruising are mild. Patients are instructed to avoid exercise and lifting heavy objects for a week. Consequently, if work entails physical labor, such as a tennis instructor or a physical therapist, it is best to request off, one week from work. On the other hand, if the patient’s job consists mostly of office work, they may take 2 to 3 days off. Most patients can begin writing emails and using the computer the day after surgery.
