The answer to that question is that it varies significantly. Most eyelids will swell for about 7 days after an operation. Cool compresses may be used for the first 24 hours after surgery to curb the swelling. Bruising is more unpredictable. Some patients bruise for about a week, while others have to wait a whole month. It is important to discontinue blood thinners and certain multivitamins before the operation because these may prolong postoperative bruising.
