Surgery to correct entropion or ectropion is performed on an outpatient basis and with local anesthesia. The surgery lasts about 30 minutes to an hour, depending on the severity of the problem, and whether one or both eyes are affected.
After surgery, patients will experience swelling and bruising for about one week. Recovery is not painful, although some discomfort and mild eye irritation are to be expected. Patients are instructed to avoid exercise and heavy lifting for 5 to 7 days.
