Upper eyelid blepharoplasty is one of the most common plastic surgery procedures performed on the face. This surgery corrects excess skin on the upper lids, called dermatochalasis. Loose skin on the eyelids that hangs over the eyelashes can obstruct vision and can also make a person look aged or tired.  A blepharoplasty functions to remove this excess skin in a way that looks natural and elegant. The goal is to make the eyes look younger and less crowded. It is also important to note what a blepharoplasty does not accomplish. A blepharoplasty is not a procedure designed to raise a brow. Many people have excess tissue on their upper eyelids because their brow is droopy, not because the eyelid skin is loose. Distinguishing between excess eyelid skin and a droopy brow is fundamental to achieve the best result in blepharoplasty.
