There are three different specialists that are qualified to perform eyelid plastic surgery: oculoplastic surgeons, plastic surgeons, and dermatologic surgeons. Note that general practitioners, aestheticians, and physicians from other specialties are not included in this list. Eyelid plastic surgery is extremely delicate and prone to severe complications if done incorrectly. The surgeon who performs rejuvenative procedures around the eyes must know the anatomy and function of the eyelids and how to prevent and treat postoperative complications. Oculoplastic surgeons have been specifically trained in aesthetic and reconstructive surgery of the forehead, eyelids, and midface. Before receiving full accreditation, they must perform hundreds of eyelid procedures and spend countless hours in the operating room. When it comes to eyelid surgery, the oculoplastic surgeon has more experience than any other physician.
