The surgeon performing a mini facelift is required to make an incision in the skin adjacent to the ears, thereby creating a potential for scarring in the postoperative period. Fortunately, the risk of unsightly scarring is very low when the right surgical technique is employed. Poor healing, which may lead to conspicuous scarring, is unusual but can occur in patients who smoke or have a propensity for keloid formation. Postoperative infections can also lead to unsightly scars. In many cases, scars can be improved with laser resurfacing or steroid injections, although some require scar revision.
