Not all fat injected into the face as part of the graft will be retained; about 30% and up to 50% of the fat will not survive after the procedure. For this reason, most surgeons inject 30 to 50% more fat than is required during fat grafting. Other surgeons prefer injecting as much fat as deemed necessary to achieve a good result and return in 6 months for a touch-up.
