Eyelid inflammation is a common condition treated by oculoplastic surgeons. From chronic allergy to an acute infection of an eyelid gland, the causes vary widely.
Styes are an example of such an infection. Generally, they occur when an oil gland in the eyelid margin becomes obstructed and infected. It is important, however, to keep in mind that some acute infections of the eyelid may be a symptom of a more serious condition.
