Bags and dark circles under the eyes can make a person look older than they are. Therefore, they are a real cause for concern for many individuals, regardless of gender.
Bags under the eyes are usually caused by the accumulation of fluid or fat in that area. In most cases, the fat pockets around the eye protrude due to weakness in a membrane called the orbital septum. In other individuals, bags form because the eyelid is extremely lax, and the skin under the eye hangs under its weight. It is crucial to make a distinction between bags and dark circles. The latter are dark blemishes around the eyes caused by a hereditary component, chronic allergies, or dark skin tone. These are much harder to treat than bags.
In this interview, Dr. Gómez explains the causes of bags and dark circles under the eyes and the best treatment for each concern.
