The buccal fat pad is located in the middle of the cheeks. It’s size varies greatly among individuals.
People with larger fat pads have fuller cheeks. Their face may look round or chubby (baby face).
Cheek fat can be surgically removed. The goal is to impart a slimmer, more contoured face. The hollow area beneath the cheekbones is better defined.
The fat is removed through an incision inside the cheeks.
This procedure may be done under local anesthesia or with mild sedation. It is an outpatient surgery.
The results are revealed 5 to 8 weeks after the operation.
