Foxy eyes have become a popular trend. The term refers to the look produced by slightly slanted, almond-shaped eyes and perfectly contoured eyebrows. Non-surgically, makeup eyeliner achieves this look by being applied in a winged fashion to give the illusion of foxy eyes. However, plastic surgery provides a surgical option to achieve permanent changes to the shape of the eyes.
A canthal suspension procedure may be used to provide a lifted appearance to the eyelid commissure. This appearance resembles foxy eyes, especially in those individuals with skin laxity and heavy eyelids or who have lost the almond shape characteristic of young eyes. Lifting the tail of the brow also helps to give a subtle slant upwards, which effectively lifts and elongates the upper eyelid creating a beautiful almond eye shape. For these reasons, the lateral brow lift procedure usually accompanies a fox eyelift.
Although mild sedation may be necessary if a brow lift procedure is incorporated, Foxy eye surgery can be performed under local anesthesia. The recovery is similar to a blepharoplasty
and requires staying away from heavy lifting and exercise for about a week. For enhanced and prolonged effects of the eyebrow lift, patients are encouraged to have postoperative Botox injections every four to six months.
