Cheek implants are an integral part of an oculofacial plastic surgeon’s practice. They are essential for achieving the best results in many facelift patients and complement a significant amount of lower eyelid procedures.
Cheek implants come in different shapes, sizes, and materials. The most common shapes are malar and submalar implants. Implant size is tailored to a patient’s facial anatomy, which can be calculated with 3-dimensional computer software programs. When considering the best option for material, silicone has the longest track record of safety and predictability.
Once the patient and surgeon have selected the implant shape and size, costs will be determined based on the specific characteristics of the implant and the chosen material. As of July 2022, in Costa Rica, malar and submalar implants have an approximate cost of $700 per implant. It is important to note that this is the cost of the implant itself and does not include the costs associated with the surgical facility, surgeon, and anesthesiologist.
Many patients also desire to pair their cheek implant operation with other procedures, such as lower eyelid blepharoplasty or rhytidectomy (facelift). In these cases, costs will vary depending on the type of anesthesia, surgical facility, and duration of the interventions.
Cheek implants are safe and offer natural and long-lasting results. In the rare case that a patient dislikes the look or wants a different implant size, the silicone material can be removed or exchanged very easily.
